Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorder In a Nutshell

Our two youngest children were born with a rare error of metabolism called Fatty acid Oxidation Disorder. FOD makes it necessary for them eat carbohydrates every 2-3 hours, around the clock, to prevent life threatening hypoglycemia. When their bodies are stressed with normal childhood illnesses they need carbohydrates on an hourly basis and sometimes have to be hospitalized for I.V.s of a dextrose solution to keep up with their metabolic needs.
