The past year has been the most "destructive" of all 22 years of our marriage. The casualties? Things. Thirteen big, and mostly expensive things.
- garage fridge
- garage door (note, 16 yo driver and the garage door cannot exist in the same place at the same time)
- water heater
- coffee maker, and wheat grinder
- washing machine (Any idea how $$ washing for a family of 9 at the laundromat is?)
- front right stove element
- kid's P.C.
- toilet (umm, tell your 2 year old not to flush pencils)
- vacuum cleaner (What madman thought up wall to wall carpeting?)
- leather ottoman
- Husband's production laptop (Warning: going through hospital security with your laptop when you are exhausted can cause clumsiness. Those terrazzo floors are very hard.)
- 4 car tires (o.k. should have seen that coming, but didn't)
- house refrigerator
I had high hopes that 2010 would start us anew. It did, my dishwasher broke yesterday. Argghh.
Good news is I have already replaced the dishwasher with LukeGraceSarahBekahBenMom. The new dishwasher even dries and puts things away immediately- in half the time my old dishwasher took to run.
- Our family is doing it's American best to end the recession with purchases of durable goods.
- That fact I have that much stuff to break shows how materially blessed I am.
- I'm definitely not sitting in the arrogant "catbird seat".
- All the things that broke are non-sentient.
The biggest blessing of all is that my family is surrounded by family, friends, and a church community who love us- even if they don't want us to touch anything at their houses.
Check out a new meme I just found: Thursday 13
As always, for Thursday encouragement go to Thankful Thursdays

I hate it when that happens. Over here, things tend to break/die in threes.
Thankfully, you new dishawasher is free :-)
Wow, that is a lot to replace. I was annoyed when I had to replace yet another coffee last month. Now, no so much :)
The "Stuff Gods" work in conjunction to make sure that you get hit by multiples whenever possible.
Sounds like my house :)

Wow, and I thought I had it rough.
I feel better now. Sorry all those things happened! Happy Thankful Thursday to you.
Loved that last line. I had to replace a 5 year old dryer this year, and the dishwasher just out of warranty isn't far behind. My appliances used to last 20-25 years.

I admire your spirit and strength. God is good, and will provide. But a thankful heart makes blessings out of burdens, and in this you are abundantly blessed. May God renew everything and keep you all in His best in the coming years!
Norma, Our first, which we bought used at a junk shop for $100 lasted 13 years. We are on our 3rd (new) only 9 years later.
That's a long list. It sounds like you got a good deal on a new dishwasher:)
I am so glad to know that I am not the only one who seems to have been infeste with destructive little gremlins, in September we lost the hotwater heater, big screen tv, and the motor on the car blew up. The whole year was like that but Sept. was definitly the worst.
Wow busymom3. You couldn't take a hot bath, couldn't watch a movie and couldn't drive off. I think you trumped me. Here's to a gremlin free 2010 for both of us!
I can always hope my gremlin choked on whatever dishwasher part it just devoured.
Hi,
What a list indeed. ..
We serve a great God. He is looking to grow us in every area. Including the breakdown of our conveniences... I LOVED your replacement dishwasher: LukeGraceSarahBekahBenMom
You ROCK!
