If you've ever seen the Music Man you might understand why we were so excited to be driving to visit my Dad in Michigan; we were all revved up to sing as we drove through Gary, Indiana.
Big fun.
Remember my penchant for weird dreams? Well, I dreamt that our exchange student had a stomach virus. She doesn't... but both my 8 and 11 year olds do. Ughhh.
Not big fun. (Why, oh why, can they not aim? )
Trip to the Lake cancelled.
I feel particularly bad because we wanted our Swiss exchange student to see a bit more of the U.S. before she has to return home. O.K. the fact that I'm going to miss out on my Dad's grilling, card playing, Kathryn's quirky humor, and the fact that I'm not going to get to see the beaches of Lake Michigan for the first time makes me sad too.
Letdown by comparison- somehow going to the Rec. Center, can't compete when you thought you were going on a road trip to real water.
There's always a bright side, right? I am quite grateful we didn't find out that we had a stomach virus while on the road. Just me and 8 children driving for 9 hours with a stomach bug, in a 12 passenger van... The thought makes me shudder. Horror mobile.
Consolation by comparison: whoever else wakes up sick today and however many times I have to clean the bathroom floor, it still has to be better than having sick children on the road.

I have an original watercolor of Lake Michigan my aunt painted. Come by my office at LU and look at the water. Then we can go to Starbucks for some coffee.
Sorry your trip had to be cancelled and I hope and pray no one else gets sick, esp the little ones. Yes, cleaning your own bathroom floor is way better than having sick people on the road.
ohh. I'm so sorry.
I hope your little one's get better soon. It's no fun to have sick kids. I somehow misplace my ability to shower and do things...I just...wait for recovery.
p.s. Music Man is my ultimate favorite. Ultimate. ULTIMATE favorite.
That would have been a nightmare on wheels.
You are SO lucky it happened when it did. And hey, now when they are well you give each kid a bottle of water and a bucket and they can practice their aim!! Hours of fun!
I am SO sorry you missed your trip.
We had a trip planned last year just me and Tyler. We were going to a golf resort, just the 2 of us. I dreamt of this trip for nine months seeing as how we don't even date.
One week before our trip, his sis and BIL who were supposed to watch the girls did something that made us rethink us leaving the girls with them and we canceled our trip.
I was angry for a month but also super happy not to have to worry the whole time we were away. We will be retaking the trip when Sarah is done napping for good so the whole family can have fun together.
Oh. And Sarah is potty trained!!!!!!!!!! She wouldn't accept bribes, candy, stickers, money, toys, anything so I finally said that if she went on the potty she could KEEP her favorite blankie/rag. If she had an accident I took it away until she did it the correct way the next time.
She potty trained that DAY and we haven't looked back. Even at night and naps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I felt kind of horrible threatening to take her friend away, but OH MY how it worked wonders!!!
My mom asked if we could afford a bigger house with the $$$ we are saving on diapers!
Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!
Now that is weird! We just listened to the Music Man soundtrack on CD tonight, I can't remember the last time we did that. Hope everyone is feeling better soon.
