Birthdays

April 20, 2010 by Rieshy

On my birthday I awoke with an ocular migraine, and then my 2 yo had the most spectacular diaper blow-out ever.  I might have to clean the ceiling fans.  I went to bed with a dead cat in my trunk.  It was a very long day.  Surprisingly, it was a good day.

It was a good day because I unwrapped a new year.  The inevitable effects of gravity aside, aging is a positive experience.  I'm a year farther away from self-consciousness and a year closer to finishing my work.  God has remained faithful through my all doubt, stupidity, and sheer pettiness.

To top off my birthday, I unwrapped a new set of knitting needles.  They say "turbo" on the package; they are the mercedes of knitting needles.  Look closely, the photos may be blurred by the astounding sheer speed of my cast-on.

When I saw the pictures I realized I was unwrapping my third gift of the day; my hands.  My hands look just like my mother's.  She passed away when I was in my 20's so getting to see even just a glimpse of my mom is a real treat.

I hope everyone can unwrap a 43rd birthday as good as mine, just minus the migraine, the poop, and the dead cat.

Oh, I literally feel your pain, sister.

I, too, am plagued with ocular migraines. I'll spare you the details, but the one I have now began Sunday night.

I've had so much pain reliever, my liver is going to burst.

Sigh.

Happy Birthday to you! And good job finding the rainbow in there!

Very , very nice piece. Thank you.

Happy birthday!

I am still trying to figure out if you actually had a dead cat in your trunk or if that is just an expression.

Happy birthday!
I'm still sad for you and the cat (and now I'm sad for you and the diaper). BUT I'm glad you had a happy birthday, and I'm very inspired by your mad skills that come across with your perspective, your knitting, and your "coping skills".

Happy birthday! Way to keep a good attitude. That's why the blogosphere is so good for me. I am constantly finding people who provide models for me.

Happy Birthday! I feel for you on the migraines, they are the bane of my existence too. What a great attitude, I hope I can feel this way on my next birthday, and just be thankful for the gift of another year.

Happy Birthday!!! My 43rd birthday is coming up soon and I am not so sure I am ready. I need to work on my attitude.

Praying for your healing from migraines. (suffered 20+ yrs. with debilitating migraines and cluster headaches) I have been walking in my healing for just over a year now, very thankfully I might add! I'm sorry about the poop..that stinks, literally! Glad for your memory of your mom...so sweet. The dead cat thing? That's just gross...I hope you can get the smell out! Oh, and Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday! I hope you feel better. I feel for you that you had to have a migraine on your birthday and I'm sorry about the cat. Ick. I am glad though that you had a beautiful day.

Happy belated Birthday! I'm so sorry you were sick--migraines are awful! And I've totally been there with the poop scenario, um, yeah, that could prompt a migraine all on its own.
But what a wonderful gift to see part of your mom in you! Thinking about that makes me smile; even more so because you realize how special that is.

Happy birthday!! I turned 44 this past January and feel the same way. It's a chance to unwrap a whole new year and to think about my 43rd year. AND I also have my mother's hands which makes me happy because she is one of my best friends. Hope you had a glorious day!

Migraines are awful- but I shouldn't whine too much. I only get one every 3 or 4 years.

The cat... well it was around 1:00 a.m by the time we got home from the emergency vet. Neighbors tend to get nervous when you are holding burials after midnight... I didn't know where else to keep him till morning.- plus I knew the kids needed to say goodbye.

Thanks for all the Birthday Congrats!

Happy Birthday! I do love getting older. When I was 20 I would say I was 30. Now I am almost 37 and I do still say I am 36!

I have had a Birthday Curse since age 21. My mom coined it because bad things always happen. Watch out for June 26th! Stay inside and knit!

Well, you certainly had a memorable birthday!

I find that I have gotten to the age where I don't mind the number. I'm just glad to have another one.

Rieshy, your hands look like mom's except for the fact that yours are very, very tan. So maybe they are more like Granddaddy's (minus the tobacco stains).

Amy, Granddaddy's? I laughed when I read this. So the real blessing on my birthday is that I don't have tobacco stains- nor do I have a spittoon in the floorboard of my car.
