Hitch-N-Haul

What does love looks like?

A Hitch-N-Haul?

Being self-employed is actually code for "no vacation".  Our last family get-away was over 6 years ago.

However, my parents-in-law have been taking our children on a 2 week adventure/vacation, each year, for the last 13 years.  Over the years they've taken our children to New York, Washington D.C, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Williamsburg, The Smokey Mountains... pretty much any American History hot-spot has been hit, or is planned to be hit.  That's a lot of driving... and we have a lot of children.

It's become a rite of passage in our family.  I've said at one time or another to each of the children, "One day you too, will be old enough to go on The Trip."

Since our 6th child's medical condition will not allow him to travel as easily as his older siblings my parent's-in-law have already started discussing how to travel and camp and have gentle adventures, all within driving distance of quality children's E.Rs.  My 6th child can't wait to be old enough.

 That's Love,  Hitch-N-Haul style.

My Tuesdays Unwrapped was a Tuesday packing suitcases!

What fantastic in laws.

You are so blessed.

My inlaws live in Calif., have all the money in the world, and never come here.

Or fly us there.

Oh, well..

How wonderful for you!

Love is a hitch and haul.
It's true, but I spend a lot of time looking for love that is glamorous, witty, sexy, smells good and tastes like the Cheesecake Factory. I've watched too much tv.
Thanks for the reminder. :)

That is great that their grandparents are so involved. What fun for them!

Empress, growing up I had the fun grandparents and the not fun ones too. I want to grow up to be the fun kind, so I'm taking notes:)

My parents-in-law live far away from us but they wanted a way to stay in touch with their grandkids. This was the idea they developed.

JoAnn- I think cheesecake is, technically, also classified as love.

This is so great! We're trying to think of creative ways for grandparents to stay well-connected with our kids, too, when we make it back to the States. Isaiah's medical needs also make traveling a bit of a challenge at times, but they all seem willing to work on it. What a great gift everyone is giving to each other!

My kids have always envied the trips yours take with their grandparents. The great thing about it is that not only are they building stronger ties and amazing memories with your children, they are giving you a slight vacation of sorts at the same time. It's a loving and thoughtful win-win situation.

Oh, how fun. There is nothing more romantic to me than my boys in the car and the open road... we pump wanderlust in our veins, too. Safe travels!

Your parents are wonderful people. Really wonderful. My dad just asks the girls if they want to help him on the roof.

The answer is NO by the way.
